Grassroots Leadership Award - 2022

Gerald Sieg - Grassroots Leadership Award

Gerald Sieg

Each year Township Officers are given the opportunity to recognize a locally elected official, currently in office, from within their own township who has shown leadership, creativity, and dedication to the township by nominating them for the Grassroots Leadership Award.
This year’s Award winner was chosen from a list of 4 names submitted.
Gerald Sieg was born and raised in Union Township and has lived there most of his life. He was elected supervisor of the Township in 1975 and has held that position continuously ever since.
Gerald retired from the Grand Forks County Highway Department in December 2021. He was employed by the county for ONLY 58 years. It’s hard to find good help these days!! Gerald’s duties for the county started out as a blade operator. In 1984 he was promoted to assistant superintendent.
Gerald was always right in the middle of selecting which roads needed to be graveled, and which signs and culverts should be replaced. Gerald will be retiring from the township board this March and his valuable knowledge will be greatly missed by the other members of the Union Township board.
Gerald was unable to attend the awards ceremony during the convention but received the award later from District 3 Director, Al Bekkerus, at the Grand Forks County Township Officers meeting.
