Township Mileage Payments

54-27-19. Highway tax distribution fund - Receives the collections of motor vehicle registration and related
fees, fuels taxes, special fuels taxes, use taxes, and special fuels excise taxes. The first five million five hundred thousand dollars collected in a biennium are paid to the Department of Transportation. Beginning in October 2025, the townships' share of the remaining collections will be 3.4%, which is transferred monthly to the Township Highway Aid Fund. Previously, the township share was 2.7%.

Paid quarterly to all townships, by electronic means through the county treasurers, based on the miles each township certifies as maintained miles.
